Nyumbani Home Insurance is a bundle of protective covers in one policy. You can choose just what’s relevant to you, no need to pay for what you don’t need.
Section A: Buildings
If you own your home, this section protects the structure (walls, roof, garages, gates, terraces etc.) against events like fires, storms, earthquakes, break-ins, and more.
Includes:
- Cost of an alternative accommodation if your home becomes uninhabitable
- Loss of rental income (up to 10% of the insured value)—a free benefit for landlords
Section B: Contents
Ideal for both owners and tenants. Covers your belongings—furniture, appliances, electronics, personal items, and even items in staff quarters or garages. Just let us know what’s included.
Section C: All Risks
Got items you carry or wear often—like jewellery or your phone? This section covers those portable valuables against loss or accidental damage. Note: Doesn’t cover everyday wear and tear, theft by someone in your household, or losses during transit unless the item is with you.
Section D: Domestic Workers’ Compensation
Covers accidental injury or death of your home staff while they’re on duty because they’re part of the home too.
Section E & F: Liability Protection
Whether you’re the homeowner or just living there, if an accident in your home causes injury or damage to someone else or their property, we’ve got you covered. This includes legal costs and remains valid even after your passing for your family’s peace of mind.
Employer's Liability
If your domestic workers fall sick, get injured, or worse, during their duties, we cover your legal liability.
Fire brigade benefit
We’ll reimburse you for fire brigade costs incurred to prevent or fight a fire at your home or nearby property.
Valuation matters
Ensure your property is accurately valued. Underinsurance may reduce your payout, while Over insurance means you might pay more than necessary.
Liability claims
If you’re sued under Sections D–G, notify us immediately so we can handle the legal process and defence on your behalf.
Unoccupied homes
If your house is empty for over 30 days (for buildings) or 7 days (for contents) without protection, break-in claims may not be honoured.
Excluded items
We do not cover money, any documents, livestock, vehicles, or collectibles unless specifically listed and approved.
Flammable materials
Keeping petrol or other flammable items at home might lead to your claim being rejected if something happens.
We always want you to feel confident about your cover, and that includes knowing what isn’t included. Here’s what we don’t cover:
- Damage from wet rot, dry rot, or frost
- Problems that develop slowly over time
- Issues caused by poor workmanship or faulty design
- Wear and tear, or fixing breakdowns and faults
- Items that are misplaced or accidentally lost
- Motorised vehicles, aircraft, caravans, or any type of watercraft
